Benefits
Hot tub water looks and feels the best when pH and alkalinity are balanced. Keeping the water alkalinity between 80-120ppm is ideal for keeping the pH in range and ensuring the water is easy on your hot tub and equipment.
Chlorine and other sanitizers work best when the pH is between 7.2 and 7.8. So, using a pH buffer like alkaline minerals will help the sanitizer work more effectively, especially when the chlorine level is kept low, as with a mineral spa.
For best results, use with borates.
Directions for Use
Use the Alkalinity Calculator to figure out how much product to add.
- Fill the hot tub with fresh water
- Test water alkalinity
- If your alkalinity reading is between 80-120ppm, you do not need to add alkaline minerals
- If your alkalinity is below 80ppm, you should add alkaline minerals until you reach at least 80ppm, but no more than 120ppm – 100ppm is ideal
- With the jets running, add approximately 1 cup of alkaline minerals for every 500 gallons of water:
- Use the Alkaline Calculator to figure out the amount for your hot tub and your current alkalinity level
- Wait 24 hours and test alkalinity again – it takes a while for the total alkalinity level to register.
- Add more if necessary to reach 80-120ppm
